I don’t begin my paintings with sketches; instead, I let the unique qualities of the wood guide my creativity. The flowing grain and the hole in this tall, slender piece shaped the image of leaves and a flower being carried by the breeze. The shadow cast by the hole blends seamlessly with the flower’s shape creating a beautiful harmony. The movement of the wood grain seems to guide the leaves, as if they are gently swept along by the wind.
